He was admitted to practice law in all state courts in North Carolina in 1972 and before all federal courts by 1975. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association and the Wake County Bar Association. Mr. Heidgerd was a member of the Wake County Bar Association Board of Directors from 1977-1979 and a section leader for the North Carolina Bar Association from 1983-1984. Mr. Heidgerd served under the Honorable Robert Morgan in the North Carolina Attorney General’s office from 1972-1975.

He represented the North Carolina Department of Transportation in highway contract and condemnation litigation and the people of the state in criminal appeals before the North Carolina Supreme Court and the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Since leaving the Attorney General’s Office in 1975, Mr. Heidgerd has been exclusively in the private practice of representing people, their families and their businesses with their serious civil, administrative and family law concerns. Mr. Heidgerd is also an arbitrator certified by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Mr. Heidgerd’s special interest over his many years of practicing law is dealing with diverse and complex legal issues that many lawyers refuse to consider.

As such, he has helped people with such varied cases as Securities Claims under the FINRA arbitration rules to breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud and wrongful death claims under North Carolina state and federal trial court rules. He has helped professionals in North Carolina before professional licensing boards, such as the Dental Board, the Nursing Board, the Heating Contractors Board and the General Contractors Board. He has helped people and business in the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court, and in the Federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He has tried serious criminal cases, including several first-degree murder cases but he also has helped people in Small Claims and traffic courts. He understands business law and so he has helped businesses buy and sell other businesses and franchises and acquire substantial asset purchases. Finally he has helped families in family court and utilizing the collaborative family law process.

It is fair to say that over the years Mr. Heidgerd has acquired a distinct and varied legal experience. And he is proud to impart that knowledge to Mr. Edwards and his clients, to better help people and businesses in the North Carolina community.
